Wood Rose Trellis Panel Ideas
66Seasoned rose growers and beginners alike can build beautiful wood panel trellis structures to showcase the decadent blooms. Build a trellis for your roses out of leftover wood from other projects, reclaimed wood, branches or newly purchased wood. Customize the trellis panel according to available space. Whether you choose to build a freestanding panel to act as a focal point, a trellis to brighten a dull stretch of fence or as part of an arbor, pergola or deck, an array of options are available.
Freestanding Trellis
For a freestanding trellis panel, design something to work with existing structures on your property. For instance, use the same materials used to build the deck, fence or pergola. Alternatively, choose rustic wood -- branches, reclaimed fence slats or branches -- and create a design that will stand out. Ideas include a basic trellis design with diagonal slats, Asian-influenced panels with square openings and a series of horizontal slats, or using branches to build a frame for the panel, making a crisscross pattern throughout the middle with thinner branches and twigs.
Fence Trellis
Help a trellis panel intended for your fence stand out by painting the wood a bright and unexpected hue. Lime green, lemon yellow and cherry red will add a jolt of color to a drab area of your fence. Coordinate the color with the existing look of your garden and the color of the rose the trellis is meant for. Paint the panel white for a backdrop against red roses. Consider building a group of trellis panels to liven up a yard without much landscaping. Remember to install the trellis 4 to 6 inches in front of your fence to allow air flow behind the trellis.
Structural Trellis
Trellis panels can be added to existing structures to beef up privacy or worked into your plans when designing something from the start. Build trellis panels to hide unsightly storage areas under a deck, to create an area of privacy along one or more sides of a pergola or to add life to an arbor above a gate. Remember, the panels can be customized to any size you require, which means you can design thin panels for the arbor along with thicker panels for elsewhere.
Other Ideas
Use trellis panels to create an area for your garbage cans. Once the roses come in, you will forget what they are hiding. Design a variety of different trellis panels for your garden, but unify them by painting them all one color. For instance, a rustic branch design can be paired with a sleek, modern, horizontal trellis and a standard diagonal slat panel if they are all painted white. Or, create an arch with two long rectangular panels topped with a shorter piece. Use the arch to lead to a separate area of your yard or as a focal point to welcome guests into the garden.

Nice to meet you, Jennifer! GREAT hub. Loved your presentation and this great idea on how to save money and have your home look good too. Voted up and away on this. YOU are an amazing talent. And with your permission, may I be both, a fan and a follower? I would like that a lot. Highest Regards, Kenneth Avery, from a rural town, Hamilton, in northwest Alabama that resembles the sweet town, Mayberry, on the Andy Griffith Show. Peace and Success to you.
Jennifer, you are so welcome, but I want to be upfront with you, my new friend, MY hubs are NOT as involved, useful or even sensible as yours. Mine are based on real-life obvious situations that I can find humor with each day. But I welcome YOU into my world. Much peace to you, my friend. KENNETH

.....hello my fellow Canadian - so nice to meet your acquaintance - what part of this great country are you from - I live 100 feet or so away from lake erie here in Ontario Canada - thank you so much for taking the time and giving me your royal endorsement of my humble little hubpage - obviously you write and sound like an expert here with your home decorating and home improvement ideas - perhaps more pictures, images and graphics would help your already world class information - also I would like to see/read some 'creative' writing from you if you're so inclined or some other non-fiction ideas - we are well into fall now as you know and after that cold weekend (my furnace came on voluntarily) I am experiencing gorgeous sunny weather here by the lake with much warmer temperatures once again.
